Draft: yet to be submitted: An analysis of NK and generalized NK landscapes

چکیده
Simulated landscapes have been used for several decades to evaluate search strategies whose goal is to find the landscape location with maximum fitness. Applications of simulated landscapes include modeling the capacity of enzymes to catalyze reactions or ligands to bind to proteins, and the clinical effectiveness of medical treatments. Understanding properties of landscapes is important for understanding search difficulty. This paper presents a novel and straightforward way of describing NK landscapes and studying their properties. We prove that NK landscapes can be represented by linear interaction models and derive the statistical properties of the model coefficients, thereby providing insight into how the NK algorithm parses importance to main effects and interactions. An important insight derived from the linear model representation is that the rank of the linear model defined by the NK algorithm is correlated with the number of local optima, a strong determinant of landscape complexity and search difficulty. We show that the maximal rank for an NK landscape is obtained through epistatic interactions that form balanced incomplete block designs. Finally, by representing NK models in matrix form, we are able to provide an analytic expression representing the expected number of local optima on the landscape.

Received: 17 April, 2009 Accepted: 18 Nov, 2009 Abstract: Background & Aims: Rheumatoid Arthritis is an inflammatory disease. The cause is yet unknown. It is possible that in causing the disease immunological responses be involved. The aim of this study was to compare CD29+T lymphocytes and NK cells in rheumatoid arthritis patients and healthy people. Materials & Methods: In this study twe...
متن کاملInvestigation of NK Cell Population in Peripheral Blood and Tumor Lesions of Patients with Breast Cancer
Background: Alteration in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) is usually investigated to provide an evidence of the host immune responses to tumor antigens. The tumor infiltrating NK cells interact most closely with the tumor cells and more accurately reflect tumor host interactions. Objective: To analyze peripheral blood and tumor associated Natural Killer (NK) cells in patients with breast ca...
متن کاملThe Assessment of NK Cytotoxicity and CD56+/CD16+ Phenotype by Flowcytometry in PBL Isolated from Women with Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion
Background: Human peripheral blood NK cells constitutively express CD56 and CD16 antigens. Peripheral blood NK cells seem to be strongly related with decidual NK cells, and may reflect the decidual NK cell functional status. There are varied reports concerning the relationship between NK cell cytotoxicity in women with recurrent spontaneous abortion. Objective: To study NK activity in women wit...
متن کاملRapamycin Inhibits Expansion of Cord Blood Derived NK and T Cell
Background: The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is important in hematopoiesis. Despite the central role of mTOR in regulating the differentiation of immune cells, the effect of mTOR function on cord blood mononuclear cells is yet to be defined. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of mTOR inhibition, using rapamycin on the proliferation and apoptosis of cord blood mononuclear cells, as well ...
